Residual Limb Socks are recommended to wear above the residual limb in a Prosthetic. It helps to secure your skin and make your limb secured by providing softness, reducing friction and providing an exact fit to your socket. It is available in numerous materials, patterns and quality.

Wearing residual limb socks on your residual limb adjacent to your skin is necessary to protect it, as well as to increase the comfort of your prosthesis by adding some cushioning and absorbing sweat. When your replacement limb is installed, you will also get a pair of residual limb socks.

Residual Limb Sock Types

Different lengths of residual limb socks are available (often available in a coloured band). It  Also adjustable in thickness.

Terry Towelling Socks: The pile within these Terry Towelling socks is fairly dense.

Cotton socks:are only half as thick as terry towelling ones.

Nylon socks: are extremely thin and are cosy near to the skin for many persons who have had amputations. To make it simpler to slip into the plastic socket or to take the liner out of the socket when removing the artificial limb, they are increasingly frequently used over the soft foam liner.

Gel Socks: One particular type of sock, called Silipos or Dermasil, are gel based socks. They are prescribed for those who have had an amputation and suffer from a specific issue with the residual limb.
