Riley just fell asleep in Calculus, and when she woke up, everyone was dead.

They weren't killed off by zombies or even a nuke; like Riley, they fell asleep, except they never got around to the 'waking up' part.

She wasn't asking for the apocalypse to happen in her sleep, and she definitely wasn't asking to have some flawed gene that made her a prime target for a crazy extremist organization. All she wanted was the impossible: for things to go back to the way they were.

But soon, she finds herself on a daunting trek across the country with a bunch of people she barely knows, and her life gets even more complicated.

Surviving. That should be Riley's top priority--her only priority. The problem is, sometimes she wonders if survival is really worth the cost, and she begins to realize that surviving and living are two very different things.

Thank you, readers! PG-15: [Yes, you read that right. I would recommend teens not read it until they are 16!] Profanity, violence and sexual situations. Warning: There is talk of cutting and suicide. If any of these are triggers for you, please consider that when reading. Take care. Rob What if death forgot you? In a future that could be ours, Lizzie, a suicidal teen-age girl, barely navigates her own life. Then everything falls apart. In an apocalyptic land nearly deserted by disease, she lacks reasons to live until a shocking turn of events reveals a phone number. Her call pulls her dangerously cross-country to meet a stranger she thought was dead. In a world where there is plenty of food, plenty of gas, plenty of space... fear, anger and a lust for power still control the patterns of human life. This coming of age, edgy young adult novel is the debut of a former alternative high school teacher. If you like this, try Toils and Snares, a Deserted Lands novella, sampled on Wattpad.

Riley's always been a positive little creature. She had amazing friends, a loving family, and a wonderful sense of self. However, what if one incident made everything crumble to the ground? Now she has to start from scratch. Can Riley piece her life back together while protecting herself from a dangerous being? TW: This story contains blood, death, gore, manipulation, friendship/family issues, and slight emotional abuse. I would advise you not to read if you are sensitive to any of these topics. This story is a work in progress, and will likely have many parts. If you notice any mistakes in my writing, or have any questions, feel free to ask or let me know. :)
