Rambunctious, Courageous, Defiant―Upendra is anything but what society expects from members of his lowly caste. He aspires to become a warrior, much to the displeasure of his parents, whose families have worked in slaughterhouses since immemorial times and fear that their child's attempt at perturbing the social order will cause their ruin.

The Devaraja finds himself amongst arrogant, esurient, and hedonistic Kshatriyas and wonders whether birth alone determines someone's worth.
