And there's a good reason for that.
There never seemed to be a market growing up for mentally-ill, nonbinary disaster bisexuals, but Charlie probably would have benefitted from that. After a lifetime of waiting for their call to adventure, the 24 year old has resigned themself to a life of quiet mediocrity, slaying the dragons of underemployment and depression rather than the ones that guard princesses in towers. So what happens when a magical elf jumps out of their refrigerator, proclaiming Charlie to be at the center of a great prophecy?

"We caused the end of the world. Turns out it's easier than you might think it is. All you need is a group of eco anarchists and an ounce of magic, and the world goes down in a poof." After another manic episode, Phoenix gets written off his parents' will, and he's trying to find a reason to keep living. Causing the end of the world and being the only one who can save the world wasn't exactly what he had in mind. Phoenix wasn't meant to have magical abilities, and he most definitely shouldn't have been able to make all the money in the world disappear just by thinking about it. To make matters worse, it came with a minor side effect: a disease called Gold fever. In other words, people started to turn into gold. Over the course of a single day, Phoenix becomes the most hated person in the world. As the economy collapses around them, only three of his friends are willing to stay by his side. Their job is to keep Phoenix alive while he tries to make money reappear and find a cure to Gold fever. Which turns out to be more challenging than they thought, as they find out someone is tailing Phoenix with the intention to kill.Hoàn thành

It's also possible that apart from their group of three, so have the rest of the human kind. Meanwhile, in the cottage, life more or less goes on. As Najwa mourns both her mom and the loss of her closest friend, Rain can't tear his gaze away from the golden remnants of their enemies and Rio does their best to keep everyone fed and healthy. Aspen isn't much help, not when he is holed up in his room, terrified of the power he holds. It's been said that you only realize the importance of someone when they're gone. Whether or not that is true, Aspen would give his life to get Phoenix back. There's guilt, undoubtedly, but also the fact that he has a huge crush on him. They have never even had the chance to kiss or confess their feelings, and that's just tragic. But hey, there's always a chance for a long-distance relationship. As you might imagine, the connection from one world to another isn't ideal. But if they can make it work, there's a chance to return Phoenix and the rest of the infected back to life.Hoàn thành

Oh, and there is a slight chance he isn't alone with his feelings. Aspen is, as the word goes, gorgeous after all, and it isn't like there are many options around to choose from when the world still thinks you're its enemy number one. But. (And there's always a but.) Their time is running out. Will Aspen be able to cure Phoenix, who still remains part of the key to saving the world, before Gold fever steals him away?
