As a young man of just twenty-three years, Fredrick Joseph Salt is longing for adventure. Growing a little weary of his position as an assistant to the registrar at the British Museum. He dreams of emulating his hero Charles Darwin and exploring the natural world.
When Frederick hears the news that P. T Barnum, the 'Great Showman' from the Ringling Bros. Circus, the self-proclaimed "Greatest show on earth" is coming to London, he cannot believe his luck. Even more surprising is the news that his employer at the British Museum wants Frederick to go along on opening night. Both Frederick Salt and his fiancée Rosabella Morland have front row tickets to the most coveted ticket in town. But why?
P.T Barnum the American showman, is known as a confidence trickster and perpetuator of hoaxes, so what interest does the British Museum have in his latest potential publicity stunt? And why is the young and naïve Frederick Salt being sent as the museum's representative?
Meanwhile the beautiful and headstrong Rosabella Morland must conquer some demons of her own.

Anne Wheeler is a misunderstood, colored woman who was a slave up until she was 20 years old. She's reunited with her brother WD when slavery is abolished, and he convinces her to do a trapeze act with him in P.T. Barnum's Circus. But when she meets a questionable, supposedly no-good man named Phillip Carlyle, things in her life take a turn. In this story, Anne battles through discrimination, assault, and heart ache. When you're reading this story I can promise you one thing. Feels. This story starts at the beginning of 'The Greatest Showman.' I have no rights to the movie or the characters. Fic rated: PG-13 for some adult themes and mild language. Warning: There are adult themes in this story. There will be notices in a chapter that contains them before and after they happen. All of these themes (examples: self-harm, assault) are mildly used, and they all have negative outcomes. I'm not adding these things to the story to promote them. I'm just simply adding them to make the romantic plot more interesting. If you are struggling with a mental illness, or have been assaulted, do not hesitate to get help. You are important. And I love you. If you need help, talk to someone you trust, seek therapy or (in extreme cases) call 1-800-273-8255. I'm always open to talk to if someone needs it. 💕 Rankings: #12: greatestshowman #1: anneandphillip #2: annexphillip #1: zacandzen #2: Lettie #5: Carlyle #3: wd Text Copyright © journalist_wannabe12 ™ 2018 © All Rights Reserved ® journalist_wannabe12 ™
The Phantom of the Woods by Bl00mingTales
20 parts Complete
In the quiet, superstitious town of Hollow's End, whispers circulate about a boy who lives deep in the woods-a boy cursed with half the face of a skeleton, feared by all who dare to speak his name. The townspeople warn that the forest is haunted, urging everyone to stay far from its shadowy borders. Lily, a daring 19-year-old who has never believed in old tales, sneaks into the woods one night, driven by her unshakable curiosity. There, she meets Kael, a mysterious and brooding figure whose life has been marred by a curse that forced him into isolation. Kael, now 23, lives alone in a secluded cabin, hiding behind a mask that conceals the skeletal half of his face. To his surprise, Lily isn't frightened by his appearance-she sees past the curse to the man he truly is. As the two grow closer, their bond begins to challenge the very beliefs that have kept Kael isolated for years. But the curse that haunts Kael runs deeper than anyone in the town knows. As Lily delves into the mystery of what really happened to Kael, she discovers that the curse isn't just about his appearance-it's tied to a dark secret that could destroy them both. In The Phantom of the Woods, Lily and Kael must face the unknown together, unearthing the truth behind the curse and testing whether love can break through the barriers of fear and isolation. Their journey leads them into the heart of the forest's darkness, where secrets, danger, and the very essence of Kael's humanity are at stake.

Fight For Me by LexiRein
40 parts Complete Mature
(Completed) Bryan Phillips didn't have an easy life. When his parents became addicted to drugs that meant doing what it took to survive. He never imagined becoming a parent at nineteen. Hell, he never imagined becoming anything due to the fact of things he had to do. Blacking out when he lost his virginity is not even the icing on the cake. Bryan Phillips was a complete mess, that is until he heard those two words most teenage boys don't want to hear, "I'm pregnant." His life immediately changed and he was working towards doing better until his child's life was threatened. It's all thanks to his good for nothing parents that he's in the predicament he is in now. That's why he is standing near the underground fighting ring ready to get his ass handed to him. Somehow he lands a punch on the notorious Grayson Miller, who is feared by most in the unground fighting ring. "I'm so dead Benny, what the fuck was I thinking?" Bryan whispers to his best friend. "Your puny ass will be dead within a week here." Grayson glares at the man. But is surprisingly impressed by the punch Bryan delivered to him. "I don't have a choice, I rather it be me than my daughter." He has no idea why he just told this stranger that. Or why he gets a sense of familiarity around this intimidating man. But no matter what he won't back down. For some strange reason Grayson wants to help him, but will not let Bryan know it. "Your funeral, meet me here tomorrow at ten am and I will show you how to properly fight." Grayson also has ulterior motives to helping Bryan out. Little did they both know that they shared a history that will soon come to light once training begins. How they will deal with that history is anyone's guess. Copyright © 2022 All rights reserved. London Shadows (#1 Penderry's Bizarre)

24 parts Complete

--Watty winner-- In Victorian London, monster hunting isn't just a job, it's a way of life. Freddie Westman, a reporter for a paranormal magazine, is one of the best in the business, but now it's personal. His childhood friend, Jim Penderry, has disappeared, and the signs point to sinister forces from beyond the grave. If Westman wants to save Jim, he'll have to face his worst fear. No, not fighting a demon with only a cake to hand. Something far more daunting. Sceptical Sophie Penderry doesn't solve mysteries or go on adventures. She's more at home in the library with her nose in The Botanist's Guide to Plants and Fungi. But she puts the science books away to help Westman find her missing brother, whether he likes it or not. Which he really doesn't. Westman is a loner, reluctant to lead anyone into danger. According to him, the supernatural is not just the stuff of folklore and children's nightmares, and a world of black magic awaits them. Now Westman must decide if he should push Sophie away for her own safety, or take a leap of faith and accept an offer of help and friendship. Either way, time is running out to find Jim, and worse still, they may not make it back in time for tea and biscuits. ~Featured story (Sep 2014 - Aug 2017) ~Selected by R.L.
