In a world where magic is everything, a boy named Asta was born without it. As such, he was bullied, mocked and neglected by almost everyone in his village. Unable to tolerate the cruel treatment from his fellow villagers any longer, Asta ran away at the age of 8. He wandered aimlessly for days until he was attacked by an unusually large creature. Asta thought he was going to be eaten alive before he was save by an armored man wielding a peculiar weapon. The man introduced himself as a Hunter, and he tells Asta about another land filled with creatures like the one that attacked him, and the organization who specializes in defeating them: The Hunters' Guild. After hearing about it, Asta asks the Hunter to let him join the Guild. Seeing the boy's determination and enthusiasm, he agreed to take Asta to the Guild where he can be properly trained.
