    it wasn't meant to end in death.
    
    that's what eleven hopper thought, when she saw her lover's lifeless body. why did it happen? why did she leave her side? she was blaming herself. if she hadn't left max, she wouldn't have died. she would be safe, with her, she would be cuddled up by her side, and they would be happy. 
    
    but this wasn't what it happened. they weren't happy together. el wasn't happy.
