Mort the Mad: The Pit & The Fiend
Even the most radical descents into madness start with a humble first step.
Mort is just like any tradesman's son. He's spent most of his life learning his father's trade, preparing to take his place. Then his father leaves for the Crusade, and Mort's relationship with his mother breaks down. Mort wants more. He rounds up three other boys, and they delve into a dark pit below the earth, out on the fringes of the village. It's the kind of place old women tell terrible stories about and farmers cross themselves as they pass.
For Mort, it's just the first step on a terrible journey.
