This is a poem that describes the beauty of appreciating people while they're still around (the whole moral of the story in a nutshell, basically) and in this case, this displays feelings of motivation and courage with no fear to gladly let the other person know that they mean the world. But it is as though, the poet might be losing touch with the devoted admiration for the "pretty rose" the poet picked up.
