~PARAGON CINEMATIC UNIVERSE: PHASE 1, BOOK 5~

*This novel serves as a concurrent story to both Viper's Bite and Shocker Rising. It does reference some minor events from those novels, but this story may otherwise be enjoyed separately.*

"Alpin would rather have Flamestar burn the entire world alive than see a woman ascend the Boreal Throne." -Firebird

The Mage Aspects are an otherworldly order of elementalists who hail from another dimension. The four sects that compose them-the Fire Sect, the Ice Sect, the Water Sect, and the Earth Sect-work among the humans of Earth in secret, protecting them from natural disasters, as well as other more trivial crimes should the need arise.

Quite possibly the Aspects' greatest pupil so far is the 17-year-old girl named Cassie, given the designation "Coldsnap" by her colleagues. Initially born with a slight vision defect, she has shown immense potential in her ice manipulation abilities, rivaling that of the Ice Sect's leader, Frost King Alpin, who sees her as a threat to his rule; furthermore, her clashing views on humanity compared to his own don't help much, for she believes that the Aspects should form proper relationships with Earth's inhabitants while Alpin thinks they should stay hidden. Fearful that she could usurp him one day, the Frost King banishes her from the Aspects entirely and casts her down to Earth, lying that he is preparing her for a "much greater purpose", when it was truly just an act of envy.

Unfortunately, this paves the way for the power-hungry leader of the Fire Sect, Morton Flamestar, to begin enacting his plans to conquer Earth and drown it in an eternal flame, seeing humanity as not being worth the Aspects' trouble. Now, it's up to Coldsnap to unite the other three sects and push back against Flamestar's corruption, before the world's entire population perishes in the fires of his hatred.

Estelle Beaumont just wanted a peaceful hike on her last day of vacation. Instead, one ill-starred moment of curiosity leaves her miraculously stranded in the fictional world of Prythian--a faerie realm full of ruthless court drama, rampant misogyny, and enough deadly magic to keep anyone up at night. Armed with foreknowledge that's only helpful when it isn't actively trying to get her killed, Estelle quickly discovers that living through the story of ACOTAR is far less fun and far more perilous when it's her own basic-ass, untrained mortal life on the line. Her plan is simple: keep her hands off of the plot and survive long enough to find a way back to the family and love she left behind. But the so-called "Mother" clearly has other plans for Estelle, forcing her to confront an unsettling truth--that her role here in Prythian might be far greater than that of a passive observer. As Estelle reluctantly abandons her original plan, uneasy alliances form, old wounds reopen, and fractured trust begins to mend. Love, loss, and scars of the past converge as Estelle slowly starts to see that the family she thought she'd lost might take a new shape, and that the life she left behind might be the only reason she's prepared for the fight ahead. But the cost of shaping Prythian's future--and her own--might be greater than she can bear. After all, it's a future that was never meant to be hers to begin with. And this is all that damned Cauldron's fault... ☆⊱──────⊰ ☽✧☾ ⊱──────⊰☆ A/N: This fanfiction is purely self-indulgent. If you don't like self-insert/iseki like tropes were an original character who read the books ends up in the fictional world as the new main character, you might want to skip this. A world where Scott and Stiles have female versions of them selves that they don't know exist. What happens when the duos meet up? (Mature for violence, intense emotional themes, and language) ***Sneak Peak*** Winnie came back handing her friend the extra apple she always got her in exchange for the extra water. As Sky took the apple it started to sizzle. Sky dropped it startled and the girls looked at each other confused. "Okay what the fuck," Winnie asked. Sky just poked the apple again and it still heated up the fruit just not to the same extent as before. "Skyler, why is your skin burning fruit and mine isn't," Winnie asked in a hushed whisper. "How the fuck should I know," Skyler asked her friend. She was starting question if this was all just a weird dream. It had to be. Right? Winnie was now trying to poke the apple to see if it would react to her the same way before nudging it to her friend and watching it heat up a little before Skyler pulled her hand away. "Winnie," she scolded really starting to freak out. "What? It was for science purposes. Multiple trials," Winnie responded. "What the hell is happening to me," Sky asked worried. "Maybe you have super powers," Winnie proposed. "Maybe I'm dying from some weird chemical reaction," Skyler pointed out. "Always so negative. Try to look on the up side sometimes," Winnie teased. "What if I'm dying," Skyler asked worried. "It was nice knowing you," Winnie said jokingly. That wasn't what the girl needed to hear. "Look," Winnie interjected realizing she wasn't helping, "You aren't dying. We can google it and find out what's going on I'm sure there's a reason." Sky nodded quietly. She didn't know what else to do. Something was wrong with her. Something in her said it had to do with that beast they saw.

One year ago, Prythian suffered an attack at the hands of the necromancer, Melantha. She was ultimately defeated, but the marks of her terrible influence still remain in the memories and on the bodies of her victims. Wynter, Heir to the Winter Court, bears many of those marks. Unable to live with himself after what happened on the island Inmortui, Wynter chose to go into seclusion and face his lingering trauma alone. Regardless of his attempts to isolate himself, there are those who refuse to abandon him, no matter how badly he wishes they would. Elodie Rohese has carried a fondness towards Wynter since she first met him, just before he was kidnapped by Melantha. She refuses to leave him alone in his isolation, and instead, visits his home frequently, even though he never admits her. Despite her uncle's wrath and prejudices, Elodie continues to reach out to Wynter. When circumstances finally drive Wynter to answer her, they are both swept into a storm of unresolved trauma and unacknowledged romance. Together, they can weather the storm, but apart, it will only break them. Disclaimer: I do not own the ACOTAR series or the characters and places therein. ~~~~~ "C'mon, cupcake. Why are you always trying to avoid me? All you're doing is delaying the inevitable." "And what's that?" Rylan spits, annoyed. He brushes her hair gently behind her ear. Rylan flinches when Blake's hand makes contact with her skin. "I enjoy taking what I can't have, especially when it's a challenge. I want what I want. And you...are something I desperately want." ~~~~~ "Do you think you're special, Rylan? Are you really so stupid that you think you're better than me--that you have a say in what goes on in my classroom?" Mr. Quinn asks in a deep, menacing voice. He glares at Rylan and digs his fingers into the skin on her forearms. "You don't. You. are. nothing. So you better get that through your thick, little skull." Mr. Quinn presses his face closer to Rylan's so she has to turn her head to escape his hot breath. He lets go of her left arm and grabs her chin roughly, forcing her to look at him. "I. abhor. you. And all students like you. I'm in the position of power here. You'd do well to remember that." ~~~~~ If Rylan had it her way, she'd be going to school, hanging out with her friends in her free time, and returning home every day to two loving parents and the safety of her home. But if life has taught her anything, it's that you rarely ever get to have things your way. Her school life is quickly becoming a nightmare. Her English teacher is emotionally unstable under the professional front he puts up and Rylan has managed to catch the eye of the resident "bad boy" and his cronies, which doesn't seem to be boding well for her. Rylan can't even count on her house to be a safe haven anymore--not while her nightmares can penetrate walls. It's not just her happiness that's at stake here. It's her life. But can she stand up to the people who scare her most, or will she end up just another statistic? --------- © 2015 Miranda JK

With methods such as blackmailing, weapon trading, and information bargaining, they seek to return the Rusted Citadel to ruin and flee with the spoils. Moody has been tasked by King Ryker with investigating and taking down the Shattered Circle, and only time will tell if she succeeds.....or if the Rusted Citadel's dreams of freedom and liberty were always meant to be a fantasy from the start. • Cover designed by @Castiment
