Every creature knows how to bite. Seventeen-year-old Violet Johnson is reminded of this the hard way during her junior year of high school.

For reasons she doesn't completely understand, her body undergoes radical changes over the summer such as her hair and skin developing an unnatural glow.

When school starts up, everyone notices her even though she has never been noticed before. With her higher profile, Violet's fantasies suddenly seem to come to life. She gets a boyfriend and is invited to parties.

But something is terribly wrong with her and she realizes this more and more as animals, from household pets to wildlife, begin turning on her, baring their fangs and attacking whenever they see her. Worse yet, Violet begins having frightening dreams about a strange creature savaging her classmates that turn out to come true.

With the help of her estranged best friend, Jamie, and her new boyfriend, Chip, who is on crutches because of a recent accident, Violet must find out why her appearance changed and how that made every animal on earth want to rip her to shreds, while also trying to understand if she is somehow involved in the attacks on her classmates.
