It's 1943, the war against Imperial Japan's intensifying. For Ross Hertz a German American marine he's on the verge of battle under the guidance of Kevin Burton, a proud Southerner and Guadalcanal Veteran. Burton's cousin Olivia Beauregard is a USO singer who motivates American soldiers who experiences growing doubt about her singing role. To avenge Pearl Harbor America's intent on going to Japan itself. Along the way these characters need to survive and find love, honor, retain their humanity while avoiding succumbing to hatred and the desire for revenge on the way to Japan. Told in two voices from the first-person perspective, Ross first, Olivia second, this is a story of love blooming in the ashes of war, of loyalty tested in foxholes and field hospitals, and of one Marine squad's long road from Tarawa to Okinawa.
