I'm running away. At least I'm trying to. But where the eff is Apex? This was his idea - to forget my ballet-boy dreams, get out of the boroughs, and use his soldier skills to survive in the blasted Yellow Zone. Not to be overly dramatic, but my life is literally at stake.

We HAVE to get out tonight. I can't hide my powers any longer. There was a time I'd be celebrated for my abilities. Not anymore, and if I step on my high-school's stage tonight, I'll lose control. That will be it; the protectors will know; they'll get me. 

But instead of coming to my rescue like a boyfriend should, Apex is a no show. 

The heartache feels like it's going to kill me. I wish. Instead, I'm doomed to the place me and my classmates whisper about, where "aberrant" teens like me go, never to come back. 

So I think. Turns out there are worse things outside the boroughs than a top-secret facility for freaks like your truly, things that want to torture and kill me in their underground maze.

There's no way I can make it out, not on my own. I want to give up until I realize maybe Apex didn't abandon me after all ...
