This is the story of Allaras Amell, mage of the Fereldin Circle tower at lake Calenhad. Magic is a natural force, a gift, a curse, and-most of all-a force to be reckoned with. This force has always come naturally to Allaras. Coming into his magic at age six, an extremely early age, he was kept an apostate for nine years. At age fifteen he was admitted into the Circle of Magi. Approximately three years after Allaras stands before a mass of Enchanters and Templars, preparing for his harrowing.

Long before the Doom happened, Valyria stood as a city of unmatched splendor in the heart of Essos. Towers of black obsidian and fused stone reached for the sky, shining under the fiery glow of dragon forges. The air buzzed with magic, showcasing the incredible skills of its people. At the city's center, a floating island held the royal palace, a fortress with spires that touched the clouds, and dragons nested atop them. Below, noble families lived in lavish estates spread throughout the city, each blending magic and engineering, with shimmering walls and gardens full of enchanted flowers. Commoners lived in lively neighborhoods, their homes made from volcanic rock and enchanted to endure the heat. Markets overflowed with exotic goods, filling the air with the sounds of daily life and songs of ancient heroes. Magic was everywhere in Valyria, from the forges that made enchanted weapons to healers who cured with a touch. Beyond the city, mythical creatures roamed the land. Dense forests and rugged mountains were home to griffins and manticores, while seas teemed with leviathans. Dragons flew in the skies, their scales gleaming like gems. Old Valyria was a marvel of human achievement and magic, its legacy enduring even as the Doom approached.
