Toya Aoyagi, 1st year, with a communication disorder. It's not that he doesn't want to talk to people, it's because of his childhood. At a young age, he was forced into take lessons for the piano and violin, just like his two older brothers. He never complained, however. He though his father taught him like that so he could be successful in life, and not end up like 'nobody' as he calls others. Even with that, he didn't feel like anybody. He was isolated from friends, family, everyone. So his stress and anxiety was building up to the point he just.. stopped talking. Because of his homeschool keeping him from growing up like other children, he couldn't even talk to Tsukasa or Saki after the age of 7. Later on, his therapist had recommended going to a private school at least.

So, he met Akito. The two have their own internal problems, but despite this, whenever they're together they feel so much happiness. An comes into the story and at least tries to help Toya make connections. He's come a long way, and he's lately felt like a person again..

Toya has all of his new friends now...

And Akito.

He has people in his corner, there for him and ready to have his back. He knows that there are people who are less lucky than him-- with unaccepting parents and cruel siblings and a harsh past. He knows that when things go wrong, sometimes people are alone. Sometimes they fall apart, and there's no one else there to catch their shattered pieces. But he isn't one of them. He has friends and family that love him. So why does he want more? Why does he-- even with all the joy his family gives him-- want a different type of love? He feels selfish, undeserving. Why did he have to feel so bad about being alone when he was surrounded by people who appreciated him? Why did he have to want, why did desire never leave him alone? Well, he finds out when he meets Castor Rex, a quiet and extremely interesting football player, and that empty part in Jazz's heart feels a little bit bigger when he starts to realize Cas could fill it. "Listen, I've got a proposition for you," Azure's firm voice flew across the soft wind of the graveyard, "something mutually beneficial." Elliot stepped back slightly, "I doubt that." Azure stepped closer and the street light flickered; he then whispered, it was soft, like the fall of dead leaves, "I can help you keep your scholarship. Don't you want to keep your dream a reality?" Elliot narrowed his eyes, "Did you do a background check on me?" "That doesn't answer my question." "And that didn't answer mine." (Abridged) -/- Life had never been fair to Elliot. After barely managing to scrape by, he somehow made it to his junior year at Central Haven, one of the most prestigious preparatory high schools in the country. He was prepared for another two tiresome years of high school, but the future has other plans for him. The start of the school year brings with it the infamous Central Haven merit project. Unfortunately, it's done in pairs this year. Even worse, he's stuck with Azure, notorious for his flippant demeanor. His living situation gets worse and his scholarship is at risk. Azure notices Elliot's struggles and the two make a deal. Surely Azure's up to something, but what? Regardless, Elliot isn't in a position to refuse. ...Maybe they'll find and lose Liberation. -/- If you're unsure about this reading this story, I hope you'll at least stick around to chapter 7 when the story begins ramping up. This story is a slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers. Please do not take this story at surface value as there is a lot of subtext. Be aware: the story can be extremely subtle. The story delves into various topics with social commentary so if you want a nuanced modern romance story, I highly suggest you give this story a try. Elliot is a strong protagonist, just less traditional. Updates will come on Fridays at 4 p.m. (PST) with most months having at least one update. The ending is planned so the story won't be incomplete.

"In the end, you and I were never an option." -------- Toya was a really great student and actually liked going to school. He and his friends would always have a great time together. But one day...everything changed. "Just because of Toya." School stopped being fun and the people he cherished so much eventually left. Just as the blue haired tries to forget everything, a ginger haired boy appears in his life and changes it another time... ...And most of the time, changes aren't something good. ... "Why am I throwing up flower petals...?" -------- Hanahaki Disease: A disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings, or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love and memories also disappear. The symptoms of the disease are summarized to strong pain, having flowers blooming in the heart and lungs, and then throwing them up. The disease begins with coughing up a few petals and growing in intensity (and pain) until the victim is vomiting entire flowers, by which point the disease has entered its final stages...
