Dr. Rainer Gruessner is one of the leading transplantation surgeons in the world. He began his successful career in 1983 with a medical degree from the Johannes Gutenberg University School of Medicine in Mainz, Germany. He went on to earn a “summa cum laude” award for his medical thesis at Johannes Gutenberg and completed his professorial thesis to obtain his “Habilitation”, the German PhD equivalent, at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany in 1991. He completed a two year fellowship in transplantation surgery at the University of Minnesota. He spent time at Kyoto University learning live donor liver transplantation techniques.
Dr. Rainer Gruessner used his experience to develop groundbreaking transplantation surgery techniques. His findings and research are widely available throughout his 600 book chapters, abstracts, and manuscripts. He also sits on many editorial boards of reputable medical journals. Dr. Gruessner has also edited two standard textbooks, with a third one, “Technological Advances in Surgery” coming out soon.
Dr. Rainer Gruessner is a member of more than 20 prestigious professional societies such as the American Surgical Association, the Halsted Society, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the Society of University Surgeons. Because of Dr. Gruessner, countless patients will receive excellent, minimally invasive care that would not have been possible without Gruessner’s contributions.
