Tobi, a 17 year old girl, thinks she is living a boring life. She goes to school, has an after school job, and has to take care of her younger brother Vladimir, a 7 year boy. Her parents died from a drunk driver on the freeway, no family members would take her in. Not knowing what she was going to do, how she was going to take care of Vladimir, she was able to buy a small apartment close to their schools. Tobi walked Vlad to his school everyday before she went to hers. But, Tobi's boring life was going to change. One morning she woke up, but not to the voice or the touch of her brother, but to the sensation that someone was watching her. With her now awake she must wake up Vlad, get him dressed and take him to school. But, Vlad was no where to be found. All she saw was his room more a wreck then usual, and he was no where to be seen. While looking for him in the house, she noticed the outside was different. It was usually bright and sunny, but now it was dark and filled her with fear. As she gets the courage to go out and look for him. Once she get herself out the door and in the dark open world, it was worse then she thought, dead bodies everywhere. A single man stood in the road standing over a dead body, holding a heart in his hand. Scared that the body was her brother, she inched her way over to the man. She got a better view of him. He had black and white hair, no shirt with stitches running across his body. His eyes were all black with neon green iris.
Remi has always loved the forest, the different sounds, smells, the way she could get lost in it and never have to go home to her non-existent parents. She goes in and out of her life with her best friend everyday just waiting until they're both old enough to leave their small boring town. But one day Remi is attacked, and nearly killed, by a man in the forest. When she wakes up everything's different. She feels something inside her, a power, but she has no idea what happened to her. All she remembers is the man's strange yellow eyes. When three new boys show up at her school, one with yellow eyes, asking her question she gets nervous. And then one night while heading to go get her friend she's taken and thrown into a world she didn't know existed.

"Remi?" Jen says suddenly.
"Hmm?" I hum back.
"Do you ever wish you could just live in the forest? Away from everyone and everything?" She looks at me. "Free." We stare at each other for a long time. I see the real meaning in Jen's eyes. Her worries for going home to her overly strict parents. Her fears for the future and the unknown in general.
"If we lived in the forest we wouldn't have gummy bears any more." I comment to lighten the mood. She doesn't find it funny.
"I'm serious Remi! What if we did run away?"
"Jen, we can't just run away. I know your parents are strict but I truly think they just want what's best for you." She says nothing. For a moment I fear she's mad at me but then she puts her head on my shoulder and I know we're okay.
