I was kayaking down a creek early one morning when I saw an enormous tree stump along the bank. I was amazed by the size of it, and I could not help but think of what the tree looked like when it was alive. It made me imagine what that tree saw during its life time. I realized that even though the tree had long since died, its stump was still acting as a memorial of the tree's life, almost like a tombstone. I tried to make the tree's relationship with the land into an allegory of a relationship that is built into something beautiful and then perishes and is eventually forgotten despite one persons desperate attempts to hold on.All Rights Reserved
