The Dread has terrorized the seas for decades, sinking hundreds of ships and stealing their wealth. Including the merchant ship Gale's father sailed. He spent years training to get his own ship and crew, and to learn the routes of the Siren's Call. And when he sees her on the horizon, he thinks he's about to get revenge.

Tyler has been sailing since before she could walk. Her aunt brought her aboard the Siren's Call when her mother died in childbirth. No one outside the crew knew that The Dread was a woman, or that the title was passed down when they wanted to retire. It was just more fun that way.
