Years before Smaug attacked Erebor, Thorin, son of Thrain, had a wife. Thorin thinking she had died in the fire of Smaug, he grieved and moved on to seek revenge. After the Battle in Moria and seeking refuge in the Village of Men in the Blue Mountains, he planned to take back his Mountain, along with twelve other dwarves, a wizard and a Hobbit, he did not expect another to accompany them.
