"There's a place just outside of the border where no one would dare venture. It's been locked up for decades, maybe even centuries. No one knew for how long because those who did were silenced. It wasn't talked about in school or in history books. What's worse is that the government is keeping patrol of the place 24/7. Once you step even an inch closer, you'd be shot dead on the spot. But not before you hear a faint cry coming from inside the city walls, calling for help. What are they hiding? What do they know?" A boy discovers this written in an old journal he found at the local library. Curious, he decides to unravel the truth behind what the journal calls 'The Screaming City'.

A flash of light, a hiss of static, and a city of 50,000 became a ghost town in an instant. The area was cordoned off, eye witnesses were taken away in black helicopters, never to be seen again, and officially, the city no longer exists. The only people left inside the cordon are Curi, Crypto, and Tech, three members of an expedition into the Zone who can't remember who sent them, why they're exploring the Zone, or even their real names. The only thing they can remember is they are tracking a radio signal coming from the center of the Zone. A signal that can't possibly be human. But the Zone isn't ready to give up all of its secrets. And it is more dangerous than any of them realize. [A story for the Literary Lounge Gen 3 Contest]
