All these questions and more will be addressed in this prequel novella to the musical Cats!
Note: I'm mostly going off of the 1998 film, but will also include elements from the Broadway revival and Jacob Brent's commentary. If something doesn't make sense (for example, how anthropomorphic the cats are in any given scene) then just default to the 1998 version.
