"Mira could feel it now, the pit in her stomach and the tightness of her throat. She no longer had a distraction from thoughts about Daniel. He was always a good cook, far better than Mira, which is one reason their relationship ended about a week ago. Daniel lived near the salon she worked at, a twenty-minute drive from her apartment without traffic. He always came to her place, insisting the drive gave him time to process his day at the firm before giving Mira his nights. She didn't mind, despite Daniel's far nicer apartment. She enjoyed being cramped in her place with him. A forced sense of intimacy. Perhaps another reason they ended things, why Daniel ended things."
