Astria, a major source of this critical resource, is on the verge of revolution. The populace disillusioned with the Rosarian Empire, to which it is vassalized to. Worse still, Astria is the birthplace of most Astral Agents, those that could natively control Astral Energy.
To minimize escalation, Sera Crawford, herself an Astral Agent, was sent to assist local forces in quelling the embers of dissent before things get out of hand. Unbeknownst to her, she would find herself caught in the midst of a far more sinister conspiracy.

I am a reader of crime novels and hard science fiction almost exclusively, and yet this story, which I have been writing for a long time, is a love story, I can't explain it even to myself. The characters will have to work through hardship and evolve to be able to surrender to the magical things around them and the flow of the universe and the love of other people.
