At birth, Morrison Dorcas was stolen away by evil forces who wanted to train him in his own unique superpowers as a lethal weapon to add to their growing army of destruction. He was fed lies and told he was to liberate the world by destroying it. At fourteen, he discovered their plan and rebelled. Now, he's on the run for not only his life, but for the sake of the world, for he is the only one capable of saving it. He must discover his true identity and defeat those who raised him. He must become.......a hero. He is Surge, the energy ninja.

A nuclear explosion wipes out a small town in Indiana, which either kills, or rewrites the cells of anyone caught in it's range. Some people weren't able to handle it's affects, others have been changed. Everyone who survived was given a supernatural ability. Hallie Osborn was affected by the explosion, and was one of the few people her age who survived, and is taken into a hospital of sorts for people like her. Finn doesn't remember anything outside of the hospital, the first thing he could remember was the chemical tank. He's not sure why he's put in there so often, but isn't allowed to ask many questions. He's eventually introduced to the rest of the gifted, he explains to Hallie his time in isolation, not understanding how important he's become. The doctors and therapists are keeping many things from the gifted, and with the help of Finn, Hallie's going to figure out what.
