FYI: I've decided to rewrite this, starting from scratch, to help with some writer's block and resolve some issues I had with the earlier chapters. This page will no longer be updated - check my Wattpad profile for a new one, with a fancy new cover.

A lone irva awakens on a strange planet with no memory of his past. Confused and pursued by strange creatures through a surreal landscape, he soon discovers he's not as alone as he seems in these ruined lands.

As the ruins begin to stir, he and his newfound companions find themselves on an odyssey throughout the galaxy, unraveling the twin mysteries of his past and the Phage that pursues him. But will they be able to figure out what's happening before it's too late to stop the Phage's hunger?

This story is a fanfic of Matt Lauth's book series Spectra. You can read the first book here: https://www.wattpad.com/story/123256101-spectra-the-mark-of-eden

Echoes doesn't intersect the main plot of Spectra much, but there might be a few spoilers to some lore bits here and there. Tread carefully.

Cover art by myself, which is why it's not very good haha. Will likely have it replaced with something better in the future.

Back cover In the late twenty-second century Humans have reached the stars, and they are not the first. Ancient technology has literally propelled them into the galaxy, and they find themselves far from alone. Three civilisations, more advanced by millennia, rule vast areas of space by cooperating with each other as the all-powerful Citadel. There are many other, less powerful species; Humanity is forced to join their ranks, low in the pecking order. As they explore and colonise new worlds, the Systems Alliance of Humans encounter the Batarians. Skirmishes ensue, avoiding an all-out war that might draw the attention of the Citadel. On a frontier colony, tragedy strikes time and again. Growing up knowing little else, eager to avenge a mother's death at the hands of Batarians, a youngster's journey begins to "be all they can be". But that may be something other than Human - and the shadow that falls across all of the Systems Alliance may be from within as well as without. This is the story of Sam Tarot, becoming an agent of the Systems Alliance Special Operations - on a mission to defend Humanity against all enemies. --*-- Want to know more? Please comment so I know you're out there. New chapters will be coming regularly (aiming for one a month). I apologise to anyone looking for a story about Shepard or any other "canon" characters from Mass Effect, you won't find that in here. --*-- This novel is now complete, but I do intend to bring more volumes. If you're interested, feel free to comment. Hope you enjoy it.

(Hello hello :D please note that this book is very old by now and it's very bad (the plot is also very bad and basically nonexistent, which you can tell from the description because I do not feel like rewriting it), so read at your own risk :) I am considering entirely rewriting the first 3/4ths as they are the ancient parts, but have other things to do before that :/) Being someone whose first memory he seems to be able to remember is being kidnapped by an organisation that resides somewhere between the stars that has an unclear goal and is not known for their hospitality towards anyone else, Cosmo feels slightly overwhelmed about suddenly being forced into the "real world" unfamiliar to him after having escaped from said organisation's clutches. After successfully not dying during his attempt to get away, he somehow manages to end up in Heaven, the place currently a Hotspot for the Ultimas' Invasions, the same feeling group of people who had recently been accused of killing Lucia, the head of Hell. It seems as though Cosmo's existence has peaked their interests aswell...The more Cosmo focuses on the intentions of the people he runs into, the stranger they become. Everyone seems to be focused on solely themselves and nothing else...And what's this Karma and Fate stuff that everyone keeps blabbering on about? There's so many questions Cosmo wants to solve, but there's not always time... (Btw, apologies if there's any errors in the writing, the first thirty or so chapters were written on paper originally and it would've taken too long to convert them all to digital form by typing them out, so the writer used a program that isn't entirely perfect at deciphering their handwriting. Or maybe their handwriting is just too messy. Or both. Pointing them out is greatly appreciated though. Even after multiple test reads, some were missed.)

Xeno yearns to have access to The Nth Dimension like The White Boys, famed telepaths who suffered brain damage when they made contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. Out of work as a bartender since the Shoki Pao dance club mysteriously burned down, Xeno's lackluster lifestyle is getting harder to maintain. The public pill silos that dispense Sunlite, a one-size-fits-all mood elevating drug, haven't been refilled in months, so the citizens of Metropa turn to designer drugs like Black Magic, an addictive knock-off with terrible side effects. Having survived an overdose of Black Magic, and successfully revived by Drinama, a brain implant slipped to him as a Mickey at a job fair, Xeno earns an entry level position as an agent for secret service organization Intellegella. Garry, his handler, introduces Xeno to the industrial version of the black box, allowing Xeno's pineal gland access to synthetic sensory perception with the turn of a dial, along with the Noumenol patch, a skin absorbed drug that stabilizes his vital signs so that he doesn't suffer a cardiac arrest. Xeno's initial mission is to test the black box on the field, under Garry's watchful eye, and to locate Trianne, an ex co-worker, ex model, ex pole dancer for the Shoki Pao, gone missing and showing signs of spontaneous human combustion, an emerging side effect of Black Magic, and a public safety hazard. All he has to do is bring Trianne back to Intellegella for treatment. It's that simple . . . according to Garry.

A lone irva awakens on a mysterious planet, and a dahmak Vaulter discovers a strange portal. Together, they find themselves at the center of a millenia-old mystery that could change the fate of the entire galaxy. This story is a fanfic of the Spectra series by Matt Lauth. You can check out the original series at https://twitter.com/spectraseries. This story doesn't intersect much with the main series plot, but might include some slight lore spoilers, and might be confusing if you haven't read at least the first book. I'd recommend reading the second book as well if you can get your hands on it. A few characters aren't made by myself, check the Acknowledgements at the end of the book for further details. UPDATE: I'm currently rewriting this story to take place in my own custom setting (Wayward). Check out my Wattpad profile for further details.
