In a world of judging eyes, labels follow you everywhere- but do they really matter as much as our society has trained you to think?

This was my entry in The D.U.F.F. writing contest, but I forgot to enter it in time, so yeah.

*Completed* We are only a number... How would you feel if when you were born, your whole life was set in front of you? If how you were treated was all dependent on where in the year you were born? Well, welcome to Karyln, formerly known as the United States before World War three and four. In Karyln, parents try to plan pregnancies to end right around the first of the year because when you're born decides how the rest of your life will be. The first boy and girl born gets the number one, they are projected to receive the best life possible. The next boy and girl get the number two, and I think it's pretty easy to guess how the rest goes. The only thing standing between the elite society and their perfect lives, is The Trial. Every year, on the first of June, everybody who has or is having their eighteenth birthday joins. It's a race to the finish line in teams of four and you could either become a higher or lower number depending on when you reach the end. This was created in hope to give those with lower numbers a chance to climb up the ranks. The Trial then developed into more. Pairs of boys and girls with numbers one through thirty live, while the others with numbers of thirty-one and beyond are purged to maintain population control. Oh how our country loves to dig bigger holes for itself. My name is Adaline Grace, and I'm number twenty-two. ~~~~~~~~~~ Awards: 1st Place in The Creative Awards (Third Edition) 1st Place in The Astrologist Awards 2020 2nd Place in The Unknown Writers Awards

Then 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙃𝙮𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙨𝙚𝙤𝙠 returns: a childhood friend F/N once cherished, once lost. His reappearance stirs old feelings F/N thought he'd buried for good. But as those emotions resurface, so does someone else-𝙇𝙚𝙚 𝙅𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙜, a sharp-tongued fighter with a quiet strength F/N didn't expect to need. Between bruises and lingering glances, F/N finds himself torn between the boy who anchors him to his past and the one who might lead him somewhere new. As questions of identity, love, and healing rise to the surface, F/N begins to learn that love-like boxing-isn't about how hard you hit. It's about when to drop your guard. ⸻ 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬: Lee Jin Sung

SAMENESS

/// SAMENESS, WHAT WE STRIVED FOR SO LONG TO ACHIEVE. BUT WHAT IF YOU'RE DESTINED TO BE DIFFERENT? \\\ Nine months of Hibernation, three months of being awake--that's how the year goes for us. Half of us wake up tired and sore while all of us wake up smelling of either lotion or bleach. But during the nine month period of hibernation, I woke up. And now I know why I always wake up sore and reeking of bleach. ⥀ Humans have always strived for equality, for everyone to be treated equal. We finally reached the point of this harmony, this level of sameness--and everyone is happy. Many, many generations later. But what happens when, in a wold of people knocked down and stood up to be exactly alike, a person wants to be different? What if they're destined to be unique in a world of strict equality? ⥀ #10 in Scifi on 7/21/17 MADE IT TO ROUND 3 IN THE WRITERS OLYMPICS Now available as a paperback and ebook.
