What if, Sodor's beloved railway loses it's equally beloved Fat Controller? (Based on my personal Head Canon, Sir Stephen Topham Hatt, who back in 1967, took over in place of his father, and before becoming a heritage railway this man was nicknamed "The Fat Director", Sir Charles Topham Hatt I after he past away from old age, shortly after acquiring Bear, Toad, Isabelle, and Oliver).  
Well this story answers that question, albeit it's told from the preceptive of The NWR's lesser-known second Controller, Mr. Oliver Clemmons.
