At the cost of missing out on everyday life, Caelum Light discovers that he has access to magic - making him a Starchild. Unable to find work elsewhere, he enrolls with the Starchild Praetorium in a year of decreasing candidates. 

However, unlike his peers, he is not driven by wishes of fame or stability but instead by a long-time goal that hangs over his brother's head: finding their father, who they believe is responsible for their comatose mother being kept on life support for their entire lives.
