Sirius Black and Remus Lupin had the genius idea to return to the past to kill Voldemort as a child. In a surprising turn they failed miserably and ended up in the marauders era with Severus Snape.

And of course the Golden Trio could not avoid ending up in the same mess. Draco, of course, has to follow them into their doom, and Lucius Malfoy gets dragged into it without the hint of a choice.
