(Essentially a detailed account of what happened to Murtagh from his capture under Farthen Dur until Galbatorix's fall, framed by his new life at Mt. Argnor)
Murtagh struggles to adjust to life as an instructor at Mt. Argnor, despite being surrounded by good people and doing fulfilling work.
When his erratic behavior and alcoholism get out of control, his dragon Thorn and his brother Eragon take him to see the Eldunari, who encourage him to face the horrors of his past in order to overcome his pain. With the help of Thorn and the Eldunari, he dives into the sea of memory and must wade through the hurt and torment to come out whole on the other side.
Note: This is part 2 of a series that follows Murtagh's story post-Inheritance. Part one is called "Tornac of the Road"; you can enjoy this story without having read the first, but some contextual things will not make sense.

Two years after the end of The Inheritance Cycle (one year after FWW), we follow Murtagh and Thorn as they hurry across Alagaesia, trying to warn their friends of a potential threat, and unravel the mystery of a witch stalking across the land. Murtagh faces past demons and Thorn tries to convince him to accept the love and help of his family and friends. When Murtagh comes to heal Nasuada in the Hall of the Soothsayer, Galbatorix learns about his betrayal. Needless to say, he is furious. Murtagh and Nasuada are trapped together and endure as they can, until Eragon comes to the rescue and they are able to defeat the King. They all need to deal with the aftermath in their own way. This fic will contain themes and mentions that may be triggering, please read the warnings and tags I used and proceed at you own discretion.
