As the leader of The Greater Good, most are left wondering how and why Gabriel Updike came to befriend the dangerous anomaly that is Whitmore. The pair are labelled as inseparable - once you find one, you are likely to find the other close by. 

Updike has refused to mention his mission to Whitty. Why would he? It would just scare him away.

Going to meet up with his friend, Updike sees somebody he does not recognise. Someone in Whitty's life who clearly meant more to him than Updike did. His life starts to crumble before him.
