Modes of Transportation has evolved throughout time, railways being no exception. But on an Island located near Cumbria, Time seems to stand still, and steam engines still seem to run.
The engines of Sodor are human in everything but body, they have needs and wants, they feel emotion, and can think freely. Whilst a lot of the outside world don't see engines as living beings, it's safe to say, for the people of sodor, that the engines that live and work there are as alive and as real as you and me.
