No reply. The boy didn't even move. His eyes were fixated on a point in the horizon, but Clay doubted he was looking at anything in particular. He knew that his staring was making the boy uncomfortable, so he tried to look away as much as possible.

He no longer looked afraid. He looked at peace. Maybe it was because he realized what a nonsensical moron Clay was from all his rambling. Maybe he was no longer anxious because he knew he was too smart for him. That Clay wouldn't be able to lay a finger on him.

Maybe he realized Clay would never want to.
