Letters to Abigail (2022)

"Well, what will it be, Abigail? Will you come with me?"

Abigail Hatt, a young, poor farmer girl living in the South-west agricultural village of Salet in a country recovering from war - Nou Lis - has always been plagued by the prejudice and disdain of the people she grew up with, simply because of her two-person family's lack of contribution to its food and capital reserves, and failure to provide enough yield for the upper class of the country living up North. Her existence is seen as sub-human by most Saletians, including her sickly, irritable mother, who insists the golden-haired maiden do all the farm work, even without so much as a father nor brother to aid her.

Rania Ead, a girl she had known for the last five years of her life is the only person Abigail could truly call a 'friend'. She is her anchor, her sense of peace, the only 'good thing' in Abigail's life. But when the red-haired girl reveals a secret to Abigail just before the beginning of a cold, dry winter, subsequent to Abigail's fatal mistake and asks an impossible question - one whose answer may indeed solve all her problems - or magnify them, it is up to Abigail to make the decision of which world she will let burn - the one she has always known, grew up in, that has always loathed her, or the unknown, vast, promising world her friend has offered her.
