Milagros is a newcomer to New Orleans, a Latina with demons, secrets, and a dark past. She has access to ancient Aztec magical powers through her ancestors which will give her the ability to transform into something Klaus has never experienced. Successful at running from her shady past, she's recently hit a wall in a bad way. The past, however, has a way of coming back to bite you.

Klaus is the most powerful creature in New Orleans who often delights in cruelty. He's King of the French Quarter and will do what he wants and take what he wants, but it's not easy while battling his own demons.

A chance meeting between Klaus and Milagros turns violent and sets the workings of a dark romance and a dark and twisted love of sex and violence into motion. Supernatural forces will come into play, draw them closer together, disrupt their lives, and a savage act brings even more mystery and trouble to town.

Close family ties, residents of Mystic Falls, magic, and chaos agents threaten to thwart their relationship. Their own instincts to self-sabotage anything good drive them to destroy almost anything in their path, including their own two damaged souls.

Will Klaus and Milagros be able to overcome everything working against them including themselves? Will they find happiness and be able to make the deepest of connections work - the one connection that can only exist between two broken people with damaged souls?
