He held the book against his chest as if his life depended on it. He had promised, he wouldn't let go of it. His breath was heavy and ragged, the smoke filling his lungs intrusively. He peeked one eye out, seeing only smoke from where the monster was a second ago. Sonic's eyes widened and he looked around immediately, his hands slightly shaking. As he looked up at a roof, he noticed a silhouette, standing there, a giant smoky scythe resting over his shoulder. His crimson red eyes locked onto green emerald ones. "Pathetic." the figure said, making a shiver run up Sonic's spine." Even in my damp mood I feel sorry for the little animal. "You don't have a home, little guy?" I ask, squatting to see it better. Did it just shake its head!? I blink a few times and sigh. I'm probably seeing things. It's been overwhelmingly negative lately. I reach a hand for the feline and it corresponds, tucking its head under it. I pet it's wet coat and stare at it as it closes its eyes. I can't leave such a pitiful thing next to the dumpsters and cold rain to be frozen alive or ravished by stray dogs. So I do what every human being would do in my situation, I take it home. And that was possibly the stupidest thing I've ever done. *** This is a story about a girl named Lucky.
