Stiles is a werefox and Derek is still a beta who works alongside Scott. Stiles and Derek used to know each other as kids. When Stiles and Derek were 17 Derek's family died in a fire and Stiles had tried to save them. Instead of being able to save them he stayed a fox for many years until one day he was found by the pack and brought to Scott's house to find Derek who might know what happened.
