Advent Calender story!!!

Meredith and Nick, two orphans living in a group home, have known each other forever. They were always inseparable, not even the 2 year age gap between them could tear that friendship apart. But something did, something bigger than them. When Meredith is twelve, she gets adopted by a nice family and he convinces her to go enjoy her new life. Under one condition: they will be allowed to see each other once a year on Christmas day. And for the first few years it works, even though they are inevitably growing apart since she's now the daughter of a wealthy doctor and he doesn't even know what he'll do after he turns eighteen. One day they have a big fight over this and Nick stops showing up on Christmas day. Little by little Meredith learns to live without him.
