Even after gifts from Rikkudo Sannin Naruto wasn't able to defeat Madara as Uchiha Sasuke decided to fight with Madara and killed zetsu before he can revive Kaguya. After 3 years of continuous battle , Naruto absorbed chakra from Jubi itself and killed Madara, but nothing was left to celebrate the win. He spends next 2 years studying Hiraishin. He found out that unlike Tobirama's Hiraishin which was just a space-speed jutsu like substitution jitsu, Minato's hiraishin have capability of traveling through time-space. Seeing possibilities, he used the jutsu to travel back in time and found himself rescuing a pretty red haired lady.
