"Come," his claws beckoning me toward him no longer felt like a threat. These were the claws that held me. I could forget the fear and pain I knew at first. He was warmth to me now.

"Will you still eat me?"

"You are too thin to eat," his ethereal voice lowered. His skull gravitated to my bare core as if drawn like a magnet. His dripping tongue curled out and I knew he could smell my excitement. "But I can still have this. Let me help you."

Homelessness had her imprisoned in an endless struggle of simply surviving. But when the forest's spirit keeps her as prey, survival hardly stays as a concern when surrendering her entire being seems so much sweeter.

I tried to look away, but before I could, his hand reached out, his fingers brushing against my skin as he gently lifted my chin. The touch was soft, but the way he held me in place was anything but gentle. "Do not take my cooperation as weakness, little lamb," he warned, his voice thick with something darker, something dangerous. His gaze bore into mine with an unyielding force, as if daring me to challenge him. I felt the tension coil in my body, and with a sharp, instinctive movement, I smacked his hand away, my pulse quickening, my breath uneven. "Touch me again, and this 'little lamb' will bite your fingers off," I shot back, my voice low and daring, laced with a fire I hadn't meant to show. His lips curled into a dark chuckle, the sound rich and slow, like honey dripping from his tongue. "If you were anyone else," he said dismissively, his gaze trailing over me with casual disregard, "you would have already been dead." ********** For generations, Maeli's people have been trapped within a never-ending forest, bound to a secluded clearing that no one can enter or escape. Determined to break this cycle, Maeli faces the growing darkness that haunts the forest, stealing hope with each life it claims. Then, one morning, she discovers a mysterious young man lying unconscious at the edge of the trees. Driven by a strange pull towards him, Maeli begins to unearth his hidden past and the secrets he carries-secrets that entwine with the forest's sinister power. She soon learns his arrival is no coincidence and he may hold the key to her village's freedom. But as Maeli draws closer to him, she is caught between the burden of saving her village and the undeniable pull of a man who could bring salvation-or seal her people's doom.

"Now that I know what makes you tick.." He said walking over to me. "I know how to make you listen to me." He brushed my hair behind my ears. Damn it. This is what I was afraid of. Showing too much emotion has caused him to see my weakness. "Don't touch me" I slapped his hand away. "You're gonna need to learn how to control that attitude of yours princess." Cole smiled turning around and going into the bathroom. ----------- With the tragic passing of her mother, Emily was sent away into the foster care system. She lives every day wanting an escape.
