Those events ties all one thing together: 
An awakening

Beings beyond the sky has come down upon this mortal realm so called "Earth" to fulfill a purpose, a purpose for humanity. But their actions has led to severe consequences as they have disrupted the lives of a certain someone. And that someone so happens to be Socks.
And that, was the mistake that they were wishing to never repeat again.
