Breath Within (An Avatar: The Last Airbender Fanfic)

"Look at the tiles in front of you, Rhys, what do you see?" the elderly man said.

"Based on the obvious, a Pai Sho board with tiles on it. However, I doubt that would be your line of thought, Iroh." Said Rhys, the young trainee. "If I were really looking from the perspective of the mind, I would see the forming of strategy, warfare, but also something more. I'm not sure I would know what that something else is though." Rhys sat cross-legged, much like Iroh across from him.
"While you are not wrong, it is a Pai Sho board, it is used for forms of strategy unique to every player, or even just blind chance. However, more specifically the white lotus, one of the central pieces, is typically underestimated in its importance to the game." Said Iroh, as he picks up the white lotus tile to emphasize his next point. "You see, much like this one tile, we may seem insignificant from our own perspective, but in the grand scheme of strategy, one person can become the turning point in a battle, or even a war. However, they can also do the same in the wrong way. The wrong path. Make a wrong move..."

He places the tile down in a position next to a different piece. Then moving a piece over the white lotus and taking it off the board, "It may be the last move they make."
