Sayori has been depressed for a long time. She doesn't know why it started, and she wished it would leave her be. Feeling more lonely than ever, she joined clubs and befriended others to help bury her sadness, and in doing so, she met Monika. She was nice. Sayori felt happy with her.

This is primarily going to be from Sayori's perspective and is seperate from the the reality of the game DDLC. This may contain spoilers for said game, so I would suggest playing it before reading this if you have not and want to.
