What was once the continent of North America is now Izera. At age 13 Kamila Shade is sent to the largest decimation camp in Izera located in the capital Riverwallow. Kamila is allowed to live, as she was able to pass the selection but many others aren't as lucky. Kamila and others like her are capable of big potentially dangerous things because of their abilities. The decimation camps are made to keep the threat towards Izera's government low. Kamila must now be sent to a reform camp where she will live out the remainder of her teenage years. When she turns 18 she will undergo another selection if she passes she is able to leave the camp and live out the rest of her life as she pleases. If she fails she will be sent back to Riverwallow's decimation camp and killed. Kamila makes it her goal to pass the selection at age 18 but she still has awhile to go. Now 16 Kamila lives in the camp acting like an angel but she gets involved with new people that can put her plan in jeopardy.
