On March 3, 1969, the United States Navy created an elite school for the top fighter pilots in the country. The government calls it "Fighter Weapons School" but, to Melissa Ann Mitchell and everyone else, it's known as TOP GUN.

After her father left before her mother could get the words out, Melissa grew up with only the stories of the legendary fighter pilot team Maverick and Goose. As she heard these stories, all she wanted to do was be as legendary as he was.

Working her way through the ranks of the Navy, Melissa became just like her father - chaos on wheels. One day, while stationed in Iraq, she received a call, a call that would change her life. She was going back to TOP GUN.

What she didn't know: her father would be there, her best friends would be there, and the guy she once loved would be there.

This is going to go well.

An Abrupt Change of Direction

24 parts Complete

Pete "Maverick" Mitchell has lost a lot over the years: his best friend, his wife, and the sudden risk of losing his career. After over thirty years of service as a top naval aviator, Maverick has found himself face-to-face with ghosts as he returns to TOPGUN to help train a new and upcoming group of graduates. Amongst rivalries and competition, Maverick must call in reinforcements, Maverick's daughter, Maddlyn Mitchell, with a dark past of her own. Their biggest trial was not the awkwardness between Maverick and Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, or trying to get the new trainees to behave like a team. It actually came from the tension caused by Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin. Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin has a reputation for being unstoppable. He's always been the top pilot, so when this new trainer dismissed him, he had to prove her wrong. That is, until he makes a mistake that would change his life and Maddlyn's life forever. It soon became clear that the very mistake Maddlyn warned him he'd make came a lot sooner than he was prepared for. And she would have to pay the consequences for it. *This is a slight rewrite of my story, "Baby Mav". I have given myself permission to use the previous story and change it. ;)
