As time passes, Aylia lasts through the ages with her consciousness transferring from one body to another, but while others forget what it means to be human, Aylia remembers. Due to her hyperthymesia, she hasn't forgot anything since the day she was born. She remembers every day, from when people lived normally to the day the dominus began forcing their totalitarian regime on to the imus, or the lesser people of the world. Each person who lives in their world has been selectively cloned through the years and they have all been kept in check by the threat of losing their immortal life if they step out of line. But when the dominus begin changing each person's memories during their rebirths, she knows she has to stop them, but how do you stop someone who controls everything and everyone?

A nuclear explosion wipes out a small town in Indiana, which either kills, or rewrites the cells of anyone caught in it's range. Some people weren't able to handle it's affects, others have been changed. Everyone who survived was given a supernatural ability. Hallie Osborn was affected by the explosion, and was one of the few people her age who survived, and is taken into a hospital of sorts for people like her. Finn doesn't remember anything outside of the hospital, the first thing he could remember was the chemical tank. He's not sure why he's put in there so often, but isn't allowed to ask many questions. He's eventually introduced to the rest of the gifted, he explains to Hallie his time in isolation, not understanding how important he's become. The doctors and therapists are keeping many things from the gifted, and with the help of Finn, Hallie's going to figure out what.
