She was Aphrodite's Champion. Said to be the best of the best fighters, the powerhouse of the Halfbloods. For they were blessed with their mother's powers. 

In the beginning people laughed, Aphrodite's champion, but they all forgot the power of love. Which borders it would cross, which people it could unite, that its power was infinite.

Maya was such Champion of Aphrodite, the one Aphrodite chose to be as her next champion. 

She had mastered the  job, she was the glue keeping the Camp together, reassuring all that the gods loved their children, that she loved them if they gave up on loving themselves. But she loved all so much, so much so she forgot to love herself. Sinking into an abyss of darkness. 
It would take the God of the Sun, our largest source of light to reach her within it.
