Maeve is still adjusting to her new life with Will and Ander, steeped in monsters and violence. Her own powers are still a mystery to her. Fear holds her back from exploring what they are or what creature that might make her. Unable to resist Will's lust but still drawn to Ander, she tries to balance her relationships with them. Maeve is determined to prove that she might not be a soldier, but she can be just as useful in other ways.

Will never expected the changes Maeve would bring to their lives or to him. He finds it harder and harder to fulfill his duty as a Soldier of Night. She touches a part of him he believed was dead, as he struggles with his own mind tearing apart. Fear for his cousin eats at him daily. Paranoia, for his betrayal, only adds to his own deteriorating mental health.

Despite being an abomination, Ander gained Maeve's favor. It has changed everything and yet nothing. He seeks a deeper connection with her, but understands it will never be more because of who and what he is. Finding solace in his magic, he walks the razor sharp line between power and losing himself forever.

The Trials

19 capítulos Em andamento

How do you get rid of the biggest part of you? How do you ignore the call of something so beautiful yet so deadly? How do you resist the darkness that's been living, growing and thriving within you even before you were born? How do you turn down the only chance to get all the answers you desire, even if it leads you down a path of chaos, horror, and madness? A path others have fought for you not to tread. But why fight at all? Why fight a fire that only burns brighter? "Listen, you can choose not to believe this. But I've been where you are, I've felt what you feel." I opened my mouth to snap back, but he continued, his voice cracking. "Don't ask me how I know-all I know is I dont want to hurt you. I dont want a throne. I just...I just want you to be okay. I can't...I can't lose you too." His eyes shone with sincerity, heart-wrenching pain...and something more. But none affected me. Not anymore. "What makes you think I care about you losing me," I whispered. "When I don't even care if I lose myself?" The others may be trying to douse the fire, but I rather let it burn. Burn until it consumed us all.
