"What if..." "If only..." "I want a change." These are very well used and bitter phrases in my community, I myself used them far too often From a young age I knew that this world was unfair. Everything was viewed through a black and white lens. You were either a Villain: evil to the core and the scum of the Earth or a Hero: good and just and incapable of any wrong or you were a civilian: nothing, collateral damage, spare pieces in this complex game known as life. I was deemed a Villain before I was even born, because of who my father was you see, and made the dreadful mistake of dreaming to be a Hero. I was Quirkless on top of everything but still I wanted to save people, i wanted to change lives. I still do and I can do that now. But...not in the way I thought I would. That's what I like to call it. The fault to my genetic code. More often than not, it's a curse. The static running through my blood gave me a name. A cruel, daunting label of a measly bug. A roach. That's what I am to them, to the government. Roach; the nameless monster with electricity for a sense and lightening as a second nature. It ruined my life, the sparking currents playing tag in my mind, running around and bumping into everything, shaking me loose. The government, actually. They ruined my life. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. Through the darkness, the computer screen illuminated the pale skin of Adelae's face around the black mask. Scrolling through the submitted questions, she came across one that made her smile. "Dear Lady Shade," She read aloud to herself. "Why did you choose to be a villain instead of a hero?" She chuckled, shaking her head at the simple, loaded question, before selecting it and opening the page to write a reply. "Hello Blogger KittyStan41. I bet you're expecting the classic tragic backstory in response to this question." she typed. " Dead parents, treated like trash as a kid, and it all came to a choice between rising to defeat my inner demons or succumbing to them. Well, my real answer is possibly something you haven't considered about the world of Heroes and Villains. Answer this for me, what is the goal of a hero? To make the world a better place, perhaps? No, dear KittyStan41. The classic goals of the Hero might seem epic and noble, but in the end it all comes down to stopping the Villain. What kind of life is that, when your only goals derive from the actions of someone else? Your whole life is used up as a preventative measure. Now does that sound like a good way to live? "I chose to be a villain not because I enjoy hurting people, but because I have goals that I plan to achieve. Don't bother asking what they are. If I told you, everyone would know, and people (baby heroes) would get in the way. Then how would I achieve them? I aspire to more. Is there need for a better reason?"

It all started with a superhero, one who vowed to help save the world and use her powers for good....But how can one keep a promise if they don't remember making it? What happens when the lines to right and wrong blur? When promises have to be broken? When the one thing you thought you could never lose, your morality, comes into question. What happens when the only person in the world that understands you is the person you believed was evil. But a reputation can be fabricated, evidence can be tampered and memories can be manipulated. How does one decide who's good and who's bad? Who's the hero and who's a villain? Maybe the only real difference between the two is a change in perspective or perhaps keeping an open mind. Sometimes even a "Villain" has a good side and even a "Hero" has a bad one...so what would happen if they were to see eye to eye?....Who would be there to pull them from the deep end?...or maybe the high tide is exactly where they want to be.

What makes a person a hero? A good hero can be hard to find. A hero is selfless, a genuinely good person and someone gets the undivided attention of all of us and causes change. Someone willing to risk their own life to save another. Well if that's a hero. Then I'm more of a hero then they are. A third generation of ability users. What does it mean to be a hero or a villain. Black and white. What about those who are neither of them. Gray. Alice and Asher, two ability users striving to be heroes. Or are they? Watch as they meet and all their family and the worlds secrets unravel. And someone is trying to change their future for the better or the worse. Will the pressure of society become to much or will they rise above it?

They used to cheer for me, celebrate every kill I made, because I was taking down the monsters they feared, the ones they whispered about in the dark. Back then, I was a hero, the one who cleaned up the filth they didn't have the courage to touch. But now, those same people loathe me because my blade cut too close to their comfort, to the ones they consider "not that bad." Hypocrites. They loved the bloodshed until it was someone they knew. But here's the truth: a kill is a kill, and blood is blood. I'm not here for their approval. I'm their judge, jury, and executioner, whether they like it or not.
